i think it's a risk. i'd either throw the bags over the pillon or cut the strap to keep the leather off the heat sink. i did the latter (2 cuts to the rear to allow the bags to ride a bit further back on the pillion support). if i had it to do over i'd prolly just throw the bags over the pillon. it's your electrics - enough can already go wrong without tempting fate.
